Royal Holloway College

The Windsor Building is a new build suite of seminar rooms and a 400 seat lecture theatre, in a contemporary structure standing alongside the Grade 1 listed founders building. The site is exposed to aircraft noise and the lightweight external fabric required careful detailing to provide quiet conditions within.

The internal structures were all designed to provide high levels of sound insulation. Internal spaces were acoustically modelled to provide high speech intelligibility with emphasis on the 400 seat lecture theatre. Mechanical services noise was also assessed and designed to suitable standards, accommodating difficult site conditions.
