Reigate Caves – Sub-Surface Vibration Characterisation
RSK was commissioned to characterise the vibration levels produced by a JCB breaker attachment operating near the Reigate Caves asset, located between 10 – 15 metres below ground level. The test aimed to determine the viability of the proposed breaking methodology and set safe vibration thresholds for Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) to protect the structural integrity of the historic tunnels.
The monitoring was undertaken at regular intervals up to 10 metres depth inside a pre-drilled borehole to determine a vibration decay curve.
