Who we are
RSK Acoustics operates a relatively flat organisational structure with everyone, from Consultants to Directors, taking on day-to-day administrative responsibilities and management of projects in accordance with their individual experience and ability.
All technical members of staff are qualified to at least bachelor’s degree level, and have a membership of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), the relevant professional body for individuals in our profession.
Tom joined Cole Jarman 1997 and became a Director in 2005. He has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of acoustic consultancy and continues as a Director at RSKA. On leaving University with a degree in Physics, an MSc in Environmental Pollution Control (Acoustics), and the IOA Diploma in Acoustics; Tom gained invaluable experience as an Acoustics Officer at Birmingham City Council before being responsible for acoustic consultancy at the Graham Consulting Group (Frank Graham Consulting Engineers), a large multi-disciplinary practice.
In his role as Director at RSKA, Tom primarily concentrates on the strategic development of the business, team management and client liaison, together with staff recruitment and welfare. He has developed particular expertise in project management, environmental impact and planning assessment, detailed acoustic design for buildings and the preparation of incisive evidence for expert witness work.
Andy is an Associate at RSKA, having joined Cole Jarman in 2007 after completing his MEng in Acoustical Engineering at the University of Southampton. He has been involved in a variety of projects spanning different areas of acoustic consultancy and he has undertaken assessment work in support of numerous planning applications for new noise sensitive and noise generating developments.
He has been the main contributor to the noise chapter of a number of Environmental Statements submitted with planning applications for large scale developments. Andy also has extensive experience in building acoustics and mechanical services noise assessments across various building types including new residential, residential conversions, education and further education, student accommodation, offices, hotels and places of worship.
Ann joined Cole Jarman in 2000 as PA to the Directors and is now an Associate Director focusing on the wider operations of the RSKA business, financial analysis and reporting. Ann plays an important link between the RSKA team and the wider RSK group.
After an early career working in the Airline Industry in the UK and South Africa she took a break to bring up her now grown up children and during this time lived in both New York and Malaysia. On her return to the UK she worked with visually impaired children and is a trained braillist.
Jonathan is an Associate Director within RSKA, having joined in 2014. He is a Full Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA) with over 14 years' experience in the field.
Jonathan has undertaken a wide variety of noise and vibration assessments on numerous small and large scale residential developments, industrial, mineral extraction and infrastructure/construction related projects throughout the UK and the Middle East. His experience includes submission of numerous chapters for EIA development, computational noise modelling and design/mitigation advice; Jonathan is well versed in current British and International legislation.
Lee is an Associate at RSKA having joined Cole Jarman from University in 2006. Lee has experience in all areas of acoustics, with particular expertise in environmental assessments, aviation noise, building acoustics and school design. Lee has undertaken expert witness work, presenting at planning committee hearings and public inquiries.
His particular field of interest is aircraft noise, which was the subject of his final year dissertation at University. He has worked on a number of airport development schemes from small aerodromes to major UK airports. Lee helps coordinate the graduate recruitment programme and regularly attends University open days, delivering presentations to students.
Mark is an Associate Director within RSKA, having joined the RSK Group in 2017. He is a Full Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA) and has more than twenty five years’ experience working within the construction industry. Since 2010 he has specialised in undertaking noise and vibration assessments. Mark has worked on a wide range of project types and has extensive experience of assessing noise for residential, healthcare, infrastructure, industrial and educational developments, working with both private & public sector clients. He has worked on several large EIA and international ESIA projects, which has included provision of expert witness services on behalf of the promoter at a Planning Inspectorate examination.
Matthew is an Associate at RSKA and is currently running the Manchester Office. He is an acoustics graduate from the University of Salford, and has gained a wide range of experience in both environmental and building acoustics since joining Cole Jarman in 2008. Since joining the Company he has developed particular expertise in school design, noise related planning issues, industrial noise control, noise from logistics operations, low frequency noise and residential design.
Matthew set up Cole Jarman's Manchester Office and is using his knowledge of marketing and business development to increase the company's presence in the North of the UK.
Sid is an Associate Director at RSKA who joined the business in 2015. Sid comes from an Engineering and Science background, being an alumni of University of Sheffield in the UK with a noticeable involvement in the NASA space research programme. Sid previously worked for SK Engineering and Construction Ltd as a Sound and Control Systems Engineer before moving to the United Kingdom to enhance his background in Environment and Sustainability.
Sid is a Corporate Member of both the Institute of Acoustics and Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). Sid predominantly works and specialises in noise and vibration engineering, remote monitoring solutions, FEA and predictive modelling, structural health assessments and bespoke designs for large scale instrumentation and monitoring projects worldwide. Sid has carried out a range of planning applications from residential, mixed use to commercial and industrial noise and vibration impact assessments and looks to continually expand the portfolio in different areas of acoustics, noise and vibration.
Tim is an Associate Director at RSKA. He joined Cole Jarman in 2013 having completed his Masters in Acoustics at the University of Southampton. His interest in acoustics began with his degree which combined physics and music together which lead Tim to be particularly interested in the acoustics of buildings as well as the human response to sound and vibration.
He has been involved with a number of projects of varying sizes, ranging from planning applications to detailed acoustic design for a number of sectors.
Adam is a Senior Consultant at RSKA having joined Cole Jarman in August 2015 following the completion of a degree in Audio Technology at Southampton Solent University, having since completed the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
He has experience in a wide variety of disciplines across a range of project sizes. Adam’s principle interests lie in the modelling of built environments (for which he has provided input on the London Underground Northern Line Extension and numerous university and cinema schemes), in addition to all aspects of room and cinema acoustics.
Alex is a Graduate Consultant at RSKA. Alex joined the company in 2019 after completing his PhD in Acoustics at the Open University. His thesis focused on the use of periodic structures for noise control in the environment. His interest in acoustics arose from a life-long love of music and a summer placement in consultancy whilst studying for his undergraduate degree in physics at the University of Leicester.
Since joining, Alex has completed the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control and is now gaining experience in all aspects of acoustic consultancy including architectural and building services acoustics, internal acoustic design, and vibration.
Antonio is a Principal Acoustic Consultant who joined RSKA in 2018. He has a degree in Building Engineering and MSc in Acoustic Engineering from the University of Granada. His studies, research and work were enriched with stays in China, Taiwan and Japan where he lived for 5 years.
Antonio is a Full Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA) and has over 7 years’ professional experience. He specialises in room and environmental acoustics and has participated in the design of a great number of concert halls, theatres, and music schools as well as noise and vibration assessments, specifications, monitoring and management plans to support the consent, design and construction of billions of pounds worth of development. Antonio has most recently played a lead role in the construction phase of Manchester Metrolink Trafford Park Line. Furthermore, he has been involved in the assessment of railway noise and vibration from construction and operation of the trains via predictive models, and submission of detailed impact assessment documents (Section 61, dispensations and IPD26) to meet Crossrail and HS2 requirements.
Ben is a Senior Consultant at RSKA having joined in 2014 upon completing his degree in Music Technology and has since completed the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
Ben's interest in acoustics was driven by a module in Acoustics and Psychoacoustics undertaken during his degree. During his time at Cole Jarman, he has gained experience in many facets of acoustics in particular with mechanical services assessments, modelling of built environments and environmental acoustics.
Ceri is an Acoustic Consultant who joined RSKA in June 2017. Ceri completed her Masters Degree in Acoustics whilst working at the Company and is an associate member of the Institute of Acoustics (AMIOA).
During her time at RSKA Ceri has assisted with the delivery of noise and vibration assessments in addition to monitoring for small and large scale infrastructure projects, planning / permitting support and construction schemes for a range of sectors.
Conor joined RSK Acoustics in April 2021 as a Graduate Acoustic Consultant. After successful completion of an undergraduate degree with honours in Audio Engineering, Conor spent time doing voluntary work for Acoustic Consultancy firms in Scotland before becoming employed at the end of his degree.
Conor went on to complete the Institute of Acoustics diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control in 2020 and is now enrolled on the Masters of Science Applied Acoustics degree programme with the University of Derby whilst working full time at RSKA. He has around 2 years experience working in consultancy, mostly completing Sound Insultation testing and Noise at Work surveys, however he is looking to gain more experience doing Environmental Acoustics and Vibration work. With still a keen interest in research, Conor is looking forward to the new opportunities in applied acoustics and research within RSKA.
Dan has been an acoustic consultant at RSKA since May 2018. An experienced sound engineer, associate member of the Institute of Acoustics (AMIOA) and member of the Institute for Sound and Communication Engineers (ISCE), prior to joining the RSKA group, Dan was a lecturer in Music Technology and Sound Engineering for 14 years within the UK further and higher educational system.
During his time at RSKA he has gained experience in a wide variety of acoustic disciplines from specialist vibration investigations, complex construction assessments and impact assessments for the UK oil, gas and energy sectors.
Federico is a Senior Acoustic Consultant at RSKA, having joined the company in March 2014. Federico is a Telecommunications Engineer specialising in Sound and Image. He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Acoustics from University of Cadiz, Spain and is a member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA). He has over 9 years' experience in the acoustics consultancy sector having started his career in Spain. Before joining RSKA, Federico worked in the Spanish market involved with the development of Strategic Noise Maps and Action Plans, urban noise monitoring networks as well as small to mid sized environmental noise assessment projects.
Federico's experience in the UK is concentrated on providing site noise and vibration monitoring, assessment, prediction and mitigation advice for small to large scale residential developments, energy, industrial, infrastructure/construction schemes and aviation projects. Federico is an experienced user of environmental computer noise modelling software and an enthusiastic programmer in VBA providing ad-hoc data processing solutions which contribute to the optimisation of deliverable timescales and internal workflows.
Francis is a Senior Acoustic Consultant at RSKA and has over 5 years’ professional experience in sound, noise and vibration.
Francis has delivered noise assessment and monitoring to support the consenting, design, construction and operation of hundreds of millions of pounds worth of development in the UK, principally in the mixed development sector, including specialised buildings.
Fred first worked at Cole Jarman as a summer placement student in 2019, completing ten weeks of consultancy work before joining on a full-time basis as a trainee acoustic consultant in 2020 having graduated with a MEng in Acoustical Engineering from the University of Southampton.
He is continuously improving his knowledge in all aspects of acoustic consultancy by working on a wide range of projects and areas of acoustics including architectural and building services acoustics, residential schemes, planning matters, and vibration.
George joined RSKA in March 2021 as a Trainee Acoustic Consultant. Working towards achieving his IOA Diploma, George has the opportunity to work with and learn from a proficient team of consultants at RSKA, with the goal of becoming a fully qualified IOA acoustic consultant in the near future. George is involved in design and engineering of multiple monitoring schemes across the UK , and is also actively participating in conducting noise and vibration impact assessments for planning applications, industrial and commercial developments.
Graeme joined RSKA in January 2019 as a Senior Acoustic Consultant based in the newly-formed Leeds office. He has 12 years' experience in the field of acoustics. He holds the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control and an honours degree in Biological Sciences.
Within the area of environmental and occupational noise & vibration, Graeme has extensive experience in the preparation and delivery of expert witness evidence. This has included planning enquiries, licensing hearings and the civil court hearings. In the residential and non-residential development sectors, Graeme has carried out noise impact assessments and developed noise control designs for a wide range of proposed housing/mixed developments, including medical, educational, licenced & recreational facilities, listed buildings and renewable energy installations including wind turbines and anaerobic digestion facilities.
Graeme is trained as a Mental Health First Aider.
Guillermo is an Acoustic Consultant who joined RSK Acoustics in July 2021. After completing an Acoustics Engineering degree and managing his own acoustics projects for 2 years in Argentina, he moved to the UK in 2016 to expand his experience.
Guillermo gained experience in noise and vibration assessments and acoustic design for residential schemes. He has been involved in major infrastructure projects including HS2 and complex industrial sites (energy from waste and car manufacturing plants) and has a particular interest in building acoustics design. He has also completed the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control and is a Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA).
He is skilled in environmental noise and building acoustics modelling (CadnaA, SoundPLAN, INSUL, EASE, Odeon) and his interest in programming allows him to develop project-specific calculation tools.
Ignacio (Nacho) Martin-Granizo
Nacho has over 8 years’ professional experience in sound, noise and vibration. He has led the delivery of sound, noise and vibration surveys, models, assessments, specifications, monitoring and management plans to enable the consent, design and construction of millions of pounds worth of transport, residential and industrial/energy development in the UK.
In the construction sector Nacho has provided specialist noise and vibration input to support a number of cable and gas diversion works associated with HS2, as well as construction works for Crossrail, Midland Metro Alliance and the rail modernisation programme in Wales and England. Nacho has also provided specialist noise and vibration input to support the development of a number of road related schemes in the UK. In the industry and energy sectors, Nacho has recently delivered noise assessments to support planning consent applications for microgeneration sites in the north of England and modifications to a steel plant in Port Talbot, South Wales. He has also been involved in the noise assessment for the operation of a number of wind-turbine developments in Wales and Scotland.
James joined Cole Jarman in 2017 after graduating with a degree in Audio Engineering and went on to study the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control. He has gained a wealth of experience in a wide range of areas, notably environmental acoustics relating to plant noise assessments and residential schemes, architectural acoustics such as sound insulation testing and commissioning and acoustic design of residential and educational buildings.
James has a keen interest in the acoustic design of performance spaces and sound systems and is now a Consultant at RSKA.
Jamie is a Senior Acoustic Consultant who joined RSKA in November 2018 and holds an IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control, as well as an MSc in Applied Acoustics, having 11 years experience in the field.
Focusing on environmental acoustics, Jamie has experience in undertaking acoustic assessments for small and large scale residential developments, mineral extraction, energy generation/storage, industrial and infrastructure/construction schemes. Jamie is an experienced user of environmental computer noise modelling software (SoundPlan and CadnaA) in a variety of settings and has experience in developing bespoke mitigation solutions and long-term monitoring strategies.
Joe joined RSKA in April 2021 as a graduate consultant after transferring from RSK Building Sciences where he worked from 2018 as an acoustic test engineer. Joe holds a degree in Music Technology which included an acoustics module where he discovered his interest for the principles and applications of acoustics in the built environment.
Joe has been an Associate Member of the Institute of Acoustics since 2018 and has been involved in many large scale projects for a number of prestigious clients. Previously working on test regimes in line with standards BB93, BS 8233 and Document E. Joe is now looking to further develop his knowledge and abilities in acoustics which he hopes he will be able to achieve in his new role.
Karolina joined RSK in February 2012 and brought with her extensive administration experience gained in the charity and travel sector. She supports RSKA senior staff members and project managers in project and tender management, finance, marketing, SHEQ and audit and technical/non-technical administrative tasks.
Kate joined RSKA in October 2018 and has since completed the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control and in an Associate Member of the IOA. She has assisted in the delivery of noise surveys, analysis and assessments to support the consenting of residential, mixed development, energy and strategic road schemes in the UK.
Katerina is an Acoustic Consultant and has over 3 years’ professional experience in sound, noise and vibration. She has assisted in the delivery of noise and vibration assessments and monitoring to support the construction and operation of major infrastructure schemes in the UK such as HS2, Midlands Metro, Manchester Metrolink extension and Crossrail.
She has been involved in all stages of project work ranging from project management, noise and vibration measurements, computer modelling and assessment.
Matthew is a Principal Acoustic Consultant who joined RSK in 2018. He has worked professionally in acoustic consultancy since 2013 with a primary focus in the field of architectural acoustics and has provided design solutions for a wide range of public and private development across the United Kingdom and Middle East to ensure attainment of regulatory performance standards and specialist requirements.
Matthew has also worked extensively in the assessment of environmental noise and vibration from transport, industrial and commercial sources, with past projects ranging from large shipyards and nationally significant power and gas installations to localised complaint investigation and the protection of delicate heritage assets. The experience obtained throughout his career has enabled him to provide bespoke and cost-efficient design solutions, tailored to the specific needs of the client, which enhance the acoustic conditions within the built environment.
Nathan is an Acoustic Consultant who joined RSKA in September 2018. Nathan holds a degree in Music Technology, and has recently completed the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
In his time at RSKA, Nathan has gained experience working on a variety of different areas within acoustics. His main area of expertise lies within Environmental Acoustics, with particular attention to long term monitoring strategies and monitoring services in both noise and vibration.
Octavio joined RSKA in 2020 as a Senior Consultant. He graduated from the University of Granada with an MSc in Acoustic Engineering and his background includes a BEng in Electronics. Octavio has experience working in the US, EU and the Middle East giving him a wide range of understanding in many acoustic disciplines from architectural acoustic design to building services noise and electro-acoustic modelling.
Octavio has experience in environmental noise modelling (SoundPLAN / IMMI), room acoustics modelling and PAVA (CATT / EASE) as well as creating bespoke analysis tools.
