CJ’s preparations for the second annual Acoustics Cup were hampered by illness and injury, but when tournament day came a full squad of eight players pulled on the famous gold and black strip. The CJ team made a slow start slipping to a 1-0 defeat in the opening fixture, leaving progression to the knockout stages in some doubt. However confidence was restored early in the second game when Lee Montague fired into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Montague went on to score a brace, with Johnny Berrill also finding the net to complete a comprehensive 3-0 victory. In the final group game a solid defensive display and a number of fine saves from Tom Zarebski led to a 0-0 draw, securing a place in the semi-final.
The team played some of their best football in the semi-final, stringing together fluent passing moves and creating a number of openings. Unfortunately CJ weren’t able to capitalise on their dominance and after conceding a late goal against the run of play couldn’t find an equaliser before the final whistle, and so bowed out of the tournament. CJ would like to thank Campbell Associates for organising the event.
